About the Safe At Home Fund

Amamor Women’s Foundation is launching our first participatory grant-making fund to provide grants to projects focused on developing and piloting innovative solutions that support victims of intimate partner violence to stay safe at home.

Under the existing policy paradigm, victims are expected to leave the home in order to flee abuse. Other countries, such as Austria, Australia and Ireland take a different approach. In Canada, can we begin to imagine a different path forward in which victims and their children are able to stay safe in their homes? Can we begin to focus on prevention and the root causes of violence and provide options for abusers to heal and break the cycle of trauma and violence that they are perpetrating?

Amamor Women’s Foundation's priority is to invest in the generation and mobilization of new and useful knowledge, recognizing that the existing paradigm for addressing intimate partner violence is based on outdated strategies that are recursive and reactive and that a new one is needed in order to break the cycle of violence.

This fund inquires into the social, cultural, and mental health dimensions that are unique to violence that takes place between intimate partners in the home and the implications on existing legal and social interventions.
